Baked gavros in tomato sauce

Baked gavros with tomato sauce and potatoes

Directions

  1. Peel off the potatoes and cut them  in thin slices.
  2. Place them on a baking pan.
  3. Clean the tiny fish (gavros) by cutting the heads and removing the guts.
  4. Spread the fish over the potatoes.
  5. Mash half of the tomatoes on a blender and mix together with sugar, salt, garlic and pepper. The rest of the tomatoes should be cut in thin slices.
  6. Pour mixture over the fish. Pour the finely cut tomatoes as well.
  7. Pour olive oil over the mixture and make sure that it is spread all over the baking pan.
  8. Bake in preheated oven in 180 C for 40 minutes.

Gavros are easy to clean. They do not have  scales and when you cut the head of most of the guts give away as well.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg of gavros (tiny little fish)
  • 4 medium size potatoes
  • 5 tomatoes
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 2 spoons of sugar
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 1/2 cup of olive oil
