Meat pie
Directions
- Wash the meat pieces and bring them to boil. Remove froth and wash them again.
- Heat olive oil and saute onion and garlic until golden. Then add meat pieces and brown on all sides.
- Finish browning with wine.
- Add tomato paste, salt, pepper, vinegar and simmer for 2 hours until meat is tender.
- In the meantime soak 1/2 cup of rice in water.
- When meat is tender add rice and simmer to absorb the most of the remaining meat juice.
- Remove from heat and let the meat cool. Add thyme and parsley and mix.
- Baste a medium baking pan with oil and spread the bottom filo sheet.
- Spread the meat pieces evenly.
- Spread grated cheese on top.
- Cover with the top filo sheet. Baste it with oil.
- Bake in preheated oven in 180 C for 45 – 60 minutes, depending on the oven and until the filo is baked.
- Remove from oven and serve.
Ingredients
- 2 home or ready made filo sheets. We used ready made flaky pastry
- 500 grams of pork pieces
- 500 grams of beef pieces
- 1/2 cup of olive oil
- 1/2 wine glass of white wine
- 1/2 cup of rice
- 2 spoons of vinegar
- 2 spoons tomato paste
- Thyme
- 2 spoons of parsley
- 2 onions, thinly sliced
- 1 garlic clove, crushed
- Salt
- Pepper
