Meat pie

Directions

  1. Wash the meat pieces and bring them to boil. Remove froth and wash them again.
  2. Heat olive oil and saute onion and garlic until golden. Then add meat pieces and brown on all sides.
  3. Finish browning with wine.
  4. Add tomato paste, salt, pepper, vinegar and simmer for 2 hours until meat is tender.
  5. In the meantime soak 1/2 cup of rice in water.
  6. When meat is tender add rice and simmer to absorb the most of the remaining meat juice.
  7. Remove from heat and let the meat cool. Add thyme and parsley and mix.
  8. Baste a medium baking pan with oil and spread the bottom filo sheet.
  9. Spread the meat pieces evenly.
  10. Spread grated cheese on top.
  11. Cover with the top filo sheet. Baste it with oil.
  12. Bake in preheated oven in 180 C for 45 – 60 minutes, depending on the oven and until the filo is baked.
  13. Remove from oven and serve.

Ingredients

  • 2 home or ready made filo sheets. We used ready made flaky pastry
  • 500 grams of pork pieces
  • 500 grams of beef pieces
  • 1/2 cup of olive oil
  • 1/2 wine glass of white wine
  • 1/2 cup of rice
  • 2 spoons of vinegar
  • 2 spoons tomato paste
  • Thyme
  • 2 spoons of parsley
  • 2 onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 garlic clove, crushed
  • Salt
  • Pepper
