Cheese pie with kataifi dough

Directions

  1. Butter a heat proof pan. Place half of the kataifi dough on the pan.
  2. Spread the cheese on top.
  3. Cover with the rest of the kataifi dough.
  4. Melt the butter in a small saucepan.
  5. Spread the melted butter on top of the pie.
  6. Beat the eggs and mix them with the milk. Spread the mixture on top of the pie.
  7. Bake for 30 minutes in moderate oven.

Ingredients

  • 400 gr kataifi dough (shredded phyllo dough)
  • 600 gr kasseri cheese, grated (a mild – sharp tasting cheese with a creamy texture. It is pale yellow in color)
  • 5 eggs
  • 250 gr fresh butter
  • 400 gr evaporated milk, dissolved in 200 gr water.
